Day 1: Tashkent Flight with board service from Germany via Istanbul to Tashkent. Upon arrival at 00:55 at the airport, complete entry formalities, transfer to the hotel, and overnight stay. After a turbulent history, Tashkent developed into a renowned craft center in the 16th century. Extensive trade relations brought the city prosperity and prestige. The tour of the Khast Imam Complex with the world’s oldest Quran, and a visit to the Chorsu Bazaar, will prepare you for the days ahead. Day 2: Tashkent – Chimgan Mountains After breakfast, your mountain guide welcomes you at 09:00 for the drive to the Chimgan Mountains, located in the northeast of the country. You’ll drive along the Chirchik River, a vital water source for irrigating the Tashkent region. Around 10:00, after a roughly two-hour drive through the green landscape, you’ll reach your destination. Here, begin a hike near the village of Burchmullo, on the border with Kyrgyzstan, to a cave (an ancient human dwelling) and then to a waterfall (approx. 3 hours), with an optional extension (to be arranged with the guide). Overnight stay at the hotel on Charvak Lake.
Day 3: Charvak – Parkent – Tashkent From Charvak, the journey takes you to Amirsoy for a cable car ride to the mountain peak (2,300 m) and then to a unique scientific facility, the Physics-Sun Institute (PHYSIK SUN). Learn about the workings of the solar laboratory and why this area of Uzbekistan was chosen for the famous solar furnace, one of only two in the world. See up close the heliostats directing their rays onto a giant concentrator of 10,700 mirror elements. The temperature at the focal point of the concentrator’s rays reaches 3,000 degrees Celsius. Climb the stairs to the top floor for a breathtaking view of the western Tien Shan and neighboring villages. Return to Tashkent. In the evening, enjoy the opportunity to attend an opera or ballet performance at the theater (schedule permitting and payable on site). Overnight stay at the hotel in Tashkent.
Day 4: Tashkent – Samarkand After breakfast, travel by train to Samarkand; arrival is expected by late morning. En route, pass large fruit and vegetable plantations. Samarkand is considered one of the world’s oldest cities and was a significant trading hub and capital of the Timurid Empire in the Middle Ages. On the first exploration day, your guide will take you to the Ulugbek Observatory, Gur Emir Mausoleum, and Registan. Samarkand’s historical structures are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. 2 overnight stays at the hotel in Samarkand.
Day 5: Samarkand Continue the sightseeing: the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, the Afrosiab Museum of City History, the Bibi-Khanum Mosque with the bazaar, and Samarkand City. Overnight stay at the hotel in Samarkand.
Day 6: Samarkand – Penjikent (Tajikistan) Drive to the Uzbek-Tajik border and on to Haftkul. Haft Kul, named for its seven lakes ranging from turquoise to deep blue, consists of seven lakes, each with its own shape and color. Listen to the legend of the creation of this natural wonder amid the mountain landscape en route. Overnight stay in Penjikent.
Day 7: Penjikent – Shahrisabz Visit the excavations and museum with Sogdian frescoes. Drive across the border to Shahrisabz, where you’ll see, among others, the remains of its summer palace. Overnight stay in Shahrisabz.
Day 8: Shahrisabz – Asraf Drive to Asraf. Approximately 150 km north of Samarkand lie the Nuratau Mountains with peaks up to 2,500 m. At an elevation of about 650 m lies the mountain village of Asraf, where the inhabitants welcome you warmly and hospitably. Lunch and a walk through the village. Afterward, help prepare dinner and then enjoy it together! You’ll be accommodated in a simple homestay with two bedrooms. 2 overnight stays in Asraf.
Day 9: Asraf After a shared breakfast, continue with a trekking tour (approx. 6 hours; elevation changes: about +/-1,500 m). The route leads through walnut forests into the valley of the mountain stream Asrafsoy. Enjoy the landscape views en route and visit rock carvings. Around 13:00, recharge with a picnic at a shady spot under the trees. After returning to your homestay, the rest of the day is free. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.
Day 10: Asraf – Bukhara Drive to Bukhara. En route, stop at a medieval caravanserai and the minaret in Vobkent. 3 overnight stays in Bukhara.
Day 11: Bukhara Two full days of sightseeing: the Samanid Mausoleum, Tschaschma Ayub Mausoleum, and Bolo Hauz Mosque, Ark Citadel, architectural ensemble Labi Hauz (Chaus – water basin), Magoki Attori Mosque, trading dome structures, Ulugbek and Abdulaziz Madrasas, Kalon Minaret, Kalon Mosque, and Miri-Arab Madrasa. Overnight stay at the hotel in Bukhara.
Day 12: Bukhara and Surroundings Visit the pilgrimage site of Nakschbandi, the house of Fayzulla Khojaev (merchant and first president of Bukhara), Chor Minor Madrasa, the miniature school with a paper manufactory, and the summer palace of the last emir. Overnight stay at the hotel in Bukhara.
Day 13: Bukhara – Khiva Free time in the morning. Departure to Khiva at noon. En route, photo stops in the Kizilkum Desert (Red Sand Desert) offer views of Central Asia’s second-largest river. During the drive, observe various desert vegetation. 2 overnight stays at the hotel in Khiva.
Day 14: Khiva Full-day city tour: the Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasa, Kalta Minor Minaret, Konya Ark Fortress, Muhammad Rahim Khan Madrasa, Khiva Friday Mosque, Pahlawan Mahmud Mausoleum, Islam Khodja Minaret and Madrasa, Caravanserai, Tash Howli Complex, Allakuli Khan Madrasa, Ok Masdschid (White Mosque), and Anuscha Khan Hammam. Overnight stay in Khiva.
Day 15: Khiva – Ayaskala The morning is free. Drive to ancient mud fortresses like Toprakkala and Kisilkala. Accommodation at a yurt camp near Ayaskale. Experience the sunset in the desert. Dinner. Overnight stay in the yurt.
Day 16: Ayaskala – Urgench – Tashkent Breakfast and visit to the Ayaskale Fortress. After lunch, departure to Urgench and flight at 15:50 to Tashkent. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay in Tashkent.
Day 17: Tashkent – Istanbul – Germany Transfer to the airport and return flight to Germany via Istanbul.
