Day 2: ASHGABAT Visit to the National Museum of Turkmenistan, with exhibitions from the ancient cities of Nisa, Merv, and Gonur Depe: archaeology, ethnography, gold artifacts, and carpets. Day 3: ASHGABAT – MARY OR DARVAZA Excursion to Old Nisa – an archaeological complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient capital of the Parthian Empire impresses with remains of fortress walls, temples, and royal tombs. A place that reflects the spirit of antiquity and the grandeur of the Orient. Day 4: MARY – DASHOGUZ Drive from Mary to the ancient city of Merv (approx. 30 km). Day 5: MARY – KONYA URGENCH – DASHOGUZ – KHIVA Flight to Dashoguz and excursion to Konya Urgench. Day 6: KHIVA Another UNESCO World Heritage city awaits you for an intensive sightseeing tour. Day 7: KHIVA – BUKHARA Free time until noon. Afterwards, the caravan heads towards Bukhara (450 km). Just like the Mongol riders of the past, you will pass through the oases of the Kyzylkum Desert and cross the largest river in Central Asia. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to take a short individual walk in the desert and taste fish at a roadside inn. Day 8: BUKHARA You have 1.5 days for sightseeing in this UNESCO city: the Magoki-Attori Mosque, the facing madrasas of Ulugbek and Abdulaziz Khan, as well as three historic domed bazaars. Day 11: SAMARKAND – TASHKENT On today’s program: the Ulugbek Observatory, the breathtaking Bibi-Khanym Mosque, and a traditional paper mill. Train journey to Tashkent (330 km). Day 12: TASHKENT After a turbulent history, Tashkent developed in the 16th century into a renowned center of craftsmanship. Its extensive trade relations brought prosperity and prestige to the city. Today’s program includes the modern city: Independence Square with the Romanov Palace, Amir Timur Park, the metro, the Plov Center, and the Tashkent TV Tower. Overnight at a hotel in Tashkent.
Day 13: TASHKENT – PARKENT – TASHKENT Not only steppes, deserts, and oases, but also the picturesque mountains of the western Tien Shan await us on this varied journey. From Tashkent, the bus takes us to a unique scientific institution, the Physics-Sun Institute. We will learn all about how the solar laboratory works and why this region of Uzbekistan was chosen for building the famous solar furnace – one of only two in the world. You will see the heliostats up close, directing their rays onto a gigantic concentrator made of 10,700 mirror elements. The temperature at the focal point reaches 3,000°C. By elevator, you will reach the top floor, where a breathtaking view of the western Tien Shan mountains and the surrounding villages awaits. Lunch in a local teahouse with tasting of the famous Parkent shashlik and samsa (baked pastries). Afterwards, return to Tashkent. If the schedule allows, enjoy an opera or ballet performance (depending on program, ticket payable locally). Overnight at a hotel in Tashkent.
Day 14: DEPARTURE Transfer to the airport in Urgench. Return flight via Istanbul to Europe.
