Brief description:

Day 1: EUROPE – TASHKENT
Flight from Europe with TK via Istanbul and arrival in Tashkent. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: TASHKENT
After a turbulent history, Tashkent developed in the 16th century into a renowned craft center. Extensive trade relations brought the city prosperity and prestige. Visit the Khast Imam Complex, home to the oldest Quran in the world, and the Chorsu Bazaar to set the mood for the coming days. The program also includes the New City, including Independence Square with the Romanov Palace, the White Mosque Minor, Amir Timur Park, and the metro. If the schedule allows, enjoy an opera or ballet performance at the theater.

Day 3: TASHKENT – KHUJAND
Drive to the Oybek border crossing. After crossing, visit the Historical and Ethnographic Museum, Timur Malik Citadel, Archaeological Museum, Mosque and Madrasah of Shaikh Muslihiddin, and the Payshanba Bazaar.

Day 4: KHUJAND – PANJAKENT
Drive over the picturesque Pamir Mountains to Panjakent. Visit the Rudaki Museum, dedicated to the outstanding poet born here. Explore the ancient Panjakent, whose ruins of an old Sogdian city have survived to this day. Founded in the 5th century, it was abandoned by the Arabs in the 8th century. Excavated ruins include the foundations of houses, a citadel with several Zoroastrian fire temples, and a city bazaar.

Day 5: PANJAKENT – HAFTKUL – SAMARKAND
Drive to the Seven Lakes (80 km) via the Sarazm settlement, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The seven lakes of Marguzor lie in the western Fan Mountains, each with a distinct color – from calming turquoise to fascinating violet. Continue via Panjakent and the Tajik-Uzbek border to Samarkand.

Day 6: SAMARKAND
The cultural highlight of your journey awaits. Sightseeing in Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world, begins at the famous Registan Square, surrounded by the beautiful Ulugbek, Sher Dor, and Tilla-Kari madrasahs. Also visit the Gur Emir Mausoleum and the necropolis Shah-i-Zinda.

Day 7: SAMARKAND
Continue sightseeing: Ulugbek Observatory, the breathtaking Bibi-Khanum Mosque, paper mill, and Registan Square by night illumination.

Day 8: SAMARKAND – BUKHARA
Train ride to Bukhara. In this UNESCO city, enjoy an exciting program: Ark Citadel, Bolo Haouz Mosque, Ismail Samani Mausoleum, and the unusually beautiful gatehouse “Chor Minor.” The Poi-Kalon Ensemble impresses with the Kalon Minaret, Mir-i-Arab Madrasah, and Kalon Mosque.

Day 9: BUKHARA
Further sights on your walking tour include the Magoki Attori Mosque, the facing madrasahs of Ulugbek and Abdulaziz Khan, and 3 historic domed bazaars. At the Lyabi Hauz complex, the central pool provides refreshment, and nearby monuments include the Nodir Devon Begi and Kukeldash madrasahs.

Day 10: BUKHARA – KHIVA
Free time until noon. Then the caravan moves toward Khiva. Like the Mongol horsemen of old, pass through the oases of the Kyzylkum Desert and cross Central Asia’s largest river. On the way, there is an opportunity for a short desert walk and a fish meal at a roadside stop. In the evening, arrive in the oasis city of Khiva.

Day 11: KHIVA
Another UNESCO city awaits you with an intensive sightseeing tour: the Kunya Ark Citadel, the Mausoleum of Pakhlavan Mahmud, Amin Khan Madrasah, the unfinished minaret, Juma Mosque with its wooden columns, the harem courtyard, and the minaret and madrasah of Islam Khodja.

Day 12: KHIVA – KONEURGENCH
Drive across the Uzbek-Turkmen border to Koneurgench. Sightseeing: Mausoleum of Turabek-Khanym – tomb of a Mongol princess and an architectural masterpiece of Central Asia; Mausoleum of Seyit Ahmed – leader of the Golden Horde; Kutlug-Timur Minaret (11th–13th c.), the tallest in Central Asia; Mausoleum of Khwarazmshah Sultan Tekesh – important ruler of the Khwarazm Empire; Kırk Molla Hill – an ancient fortress (ca. 3 ha) containing the famous Ma’mun Library (8th–9th c.) and an old healing cemetery; Mausoleum of Najm ad-Din al-Kubra (12th c.) – founder of the Kubrawiyya Sufi order, a significant pilgrimage site. Return to Dashoguz.

Day 13: DASHOGUZ – DARVAZA
Drive to Darvaza. Visit the gas crater.
Overnight in a Turkmen yurt.

Day 14: DARVAZA – ASHGABAT
Visit the National Museum of Turkmenistan, with exhibits from the ancient cities of Nisa, Merv, and Gonur Depe: archaeology, ethnography, gold artifacts, and carpets. Then discover the Turkmen capital with its modern architecture: Arch of Neutrality – one of the city’s most famous landmarks, Independence Square – the administrative and symbolic center of Ashgabat, Wedding Palace “Bagt Köşgi” – a futuristic building shaped like an eight-pointed star, etc.

Day 15: ASHGABAT – NISA
Excursion to Old Nisa – an archaeological complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient capital of the Parthian Empire impresses with remains of fortress walls, temples, and royal tombs – a place that reflects the spirit of antiquity and the grandeur of the Orient. Afterwards, visit the Ruhy Turkmenbashi Mosque – the largest mosque in Central Asia, built in honor of Turkmenistan’s first president.

Day 16: ASHGABAT – ISTANBUL – EUROPE
Transfer to the airport and flight to Istanbul.
